In the state of Texas, property deadlines hang heavy on property owners. And with this year’s January 31st deadline come and gone, penalties and interest for missing that deadline are already growing for those who missed it.
There are some exceptions, but for the majority of homeowners in Texas, either you’ve paid your 2018 property taxes or you haven’t. And if you haven’t, a domino effect of serious issues begins, including:
● Interest payments
● The possibility of being sued
● Delinquent tax notices
● Difficulty selling your property in the future
Interest payments and penalties on delinquent taxes can really add up over time (up to 24% depending on the county). Even worse, the county tax collector may also decide to sue you in order to recoup the tax losses.
You may end up having to pay your property taxes, any additional penalties incurred, and the court costs. So, what are the remaining deadlines?
